Of Winter Storms and Kids in the Family Room

Posted by

When snow is falling and everyone's enjoying a cup of hot chocolate, Mr Sketch should come to mind, at the very least. This weather we've been seeing promotes creativity simply because we are trapped, sometimes for a couple of days, inside our homes where the space suddenly becomes smaller than we remember.

If you have children, having lots of paper, pencils, and markers around can fill the hours. And while electronic gadgets are great too, sometimes the old eyeballs need a break. And you can't draw a tiger on a tablet--at least not in a way that gets you in touch with the real technique of drawing. Sometimes you need to scribble. Sometimes you need to make LARGE marks on the page. And you can't hang up your tiger if it's resident in your tablet or phone.

Maybe you aren't worried about filling your time. Maybe the house isn't full of kids. Maybe it's just you and the weather. And the dog. Books on drawing abound. And one of the easiest ways to learn to draw is with a Sharpie. For reasons I haven't figured out, using a Sharpie just makes things look like themselves. I love using them. And there are so many things to do with them that the mind boggles. A list of some of them resides on the Sharpie site. www.Sharpie.com/blog

Any place where there is room to write, there's room for self expression with a Sharpie. Twenty-nine colors and more coming mid month. Watch for Electro POP colors. Then get busy. Shoes, tee shirtshand bags, boxes...they can all use a face lift. Finger nails. I mean it. Go to the Sharpie Blog and see what things are being done. Sharpie may surprise you.
